Start here. Two of the best Dubai museums cost nothing.
Jameel Arts Centre — Jaddaf Waterfront
Free for everyone, and a twelve-minute walk from Al Jaddaf metro on the Green Line. Contemporary art across multiple galleries plus a sculpture park and library. Open Saturday to Thursday 10am to 8pm, Friday from noon. Closed Tuesdays — the detail that catches people out.
Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood
Free to wander. Wind-tower houses, narrow lanes and a handful of small museums and galleries inside. The best free hour in Bur Dubai.
Dubai Heritage Village
Free, and a decent companion to Al Fahidi if you are already down by the creek.

Al Shindagha Museum — Bur Dubai
The one that has quietly replaced Dubai Museum as the city’s main heritage attraction. AED 50 per adult covering all exhibits for one day, free for under-fives. Daily 10am to 8pm, last entry 7pm. Near Al Ghubaiba metro. It is a multi-pavilion district rather than one building — budget half a day.
Etihad Museum — Jumeirah
Built on the site where the UAE union agreement was signed in 1971. Sharp, modern, and the best explanation of how the country came together.
Crossroad of Civilizations Museum — Al Shindagha
AED 30 covers three museums — Civilizations, Rare Books and Manuscripts, and the Armoury. Saturday to Thursday 8am to 8pm. A private collection, and far better than that suggests.
Coffee Museum — Al Fahidi
Small, free-ish and genuinely charming. Coffee history across cultures, with tastings.
Modern and immersive
The ones built for the camera, though several are better than that implies.
Museum of the Future — Sheikh Zayed Road
The building alone justifies the ticket. Book well ahead — it sells out days in advance.
Arte Museum — Dubai Mall
Immersive digital art across a series of rooms. Loud, bright, and very good with kids.
Museum of Illusions — Al Seef
AED 80 adult, AED 60 for children under 12, and a family ticket for two adults and two children at AED 250. Daily 10am to 10pm, later Thursday to Saturday. Under-threes free.
AYA Universe — Wafi City, Oud Metha
Immersive light and sound across twelve zones. Gate price around AED 135, though it is frequently discounted to under AED 100 online. Sunday to Thursday 10am to 10pm, later at weekends.
3D Selfie Museum
Exactly what it says. Fun for an hour, not a museum in any serious sense.

OliOli Children’s Museum — Al Quoz 1
Eight galleries of hands-on play. Timed sessions, from around AED 149 per child for two hours with extra hours at AED 30. The best rainy-day option in the city, not that we get many.
Worth the drive
Outside Dubai, but they come up every time.
Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
The best museum in the UAE, and it is not in Dubai. Manuscripts, astronomy, ceramics — properly curated. Forty minutes from Downtown.
Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve
Not a museum, but the closest thing Dubai has to a living heritage site. Free to enter, and go at sunset.

Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort
Closed since 2021 for restoration. Dubai Culture confirmed in February 2026 that the final phase of rehabilitation was under review ahead of reopening, with six new galleries planned and an official target of the first half of 2026. It had not reopened at the time of writing, so do not build a day around it. I will update this entry when it opens.

No. Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since 2021 for restoration. Dubai Culture has targeted a reopening in the first half of 2026 with six new galleries, but it had not reopened as of July 2026. Al Shindagha Museum is the best alternative for city heritage.
Which Dubai museums are free?
Jameel Arts Centre is free for everyone, and Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood and Dubai Heritage Village cost nothing to walk around. Al Marmoom is also free entry.
What is the best museum in Dubai?
Museum of the Future for the spectacle, Al Shindagha for actual history, and Jameel Arts Centre if you want contemporary art and do not want to pay. Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization beats all of them but is in another emirate.
