The best falafel sandwiches in Dubai cost between AED 3.50 and AED 12, and the cheapest ones are frequently the best. These are the 13 spots I actually eat at, grouped by the kind of place they are rather than ranked.
Falafel is vegetarian by default, so everything on this list is (V) unless you add meat to the order. Prices are what I paid on my last visit — Dubai moves fast, so treat them as a guide rather than a promise.
The cheap cafeterias — where the best falafel sandwiches in Dubai actually live
Counter service, no seating worth mentioning, and sandwiches under a fiver. This is my living list of the best falafel sandwiches in Dubai, and this tier is where most of it lives.
Persian Cafeteria — Bur Dubai
A modest street stand doing two things: falafel and aloo pakoda. The special-recipe chutney gives it a desi twist you will not find anywhere else on this list. Around AED 3.50, and the shop has had a following for 50 years. (V)
Aroos Damascus
Dubai falafel can get needlessly expensive. This is the exception — sandwiches from around AED 4, and worth adding a shawarma platter to the order while you are there. (V)
Falafil Al Rabiah Al Khadra Cafeteria
Humble frontage, serious sandwich. Tangy pickles, fresh vegetables, tahini, and the balance is right. From around AED 6. (V)
The institutions
The names that have been feeding this city for decades, where the recipe has not changed and does not need to.
Al Mallah — Al Diyafah
The oldest of the Dubai institutions and still the benchmark. Freshly fried falafel, tahini, pickles and vegetables, wrapped properly. From around AED 8. (V)
Automatic Restaurant
A classic Middle Eastern chain across the city. Fluffy pita stuffed with falafel, tahini and pickles — unfussy and consistent. (V)
Al Safadi
Simple and satisfying rather than clever. Crisp falafel balls, tahini and pickles in soft pita. (V)
Zaroob
A crowd favourite for a reason — crispy falafel, hummus, pickles and vegetables in warm Arabic bread, served in a room that is always busy. (V)
Lebanese and Palestinian kitchens
Where the wrap is part of a bigger menu, and usually better for it.
Mama’esh
Palestinian, and the cutest spot on this list. The oven-baked falafel wrap is crisp and juicy rather than deep-fried heavy. (V)
Manoushe Street
A Lebanese chain doing falafel with hummus, pickles and tomato, alongside the manakeesh they are actually known for. (V)
Wafi Gourmet
Hand-rolled falafel balls, tahini and pickles in warm pita. Pricier than the cafeterias, and a nicer room to sit in. (V)
The Hummus House
Falafel sandwich with fresh vegetables, creamy hummus and a drizzle of tahini. Reliable, and the wider menu is worth exploring. (V)
The modern and the vegan
Falafel reworked. The priciest of the best falafel sandwiches in Dubai, and occasionally worth it.
Wild & The Moon
A vegan rework — quinoa falafel, beetroot hummus and fresh vegetables. Not traditional, and not pretending to be. (V)
Operation: Falafel
A homegrown chain built entirely around the sandwich, with a secret spice blend, pickles and fries on the side. (V)
Questions people ask
What are the best falafel sandwiches in Dubai?
Al Mallah on Al Diyafah is the institution and still the benchmark. For value, Persian Cafeteria in Bur Dubai and Aroos Damascus are the two that consistently beat places charging three times as much.
How much does a falafel sandwich cost in Dubai?
Between roughly AED 3.50 and AED 12 depending on where you go. Cafeteria counters sit at the bottom of that range, sit-down Lebanese restaurants and the vegan spots at the top.
Is falafel vegetarian or vegan?
Falafel itself is both — chickpeas, herbs and spices, deep fried. The sandwich is usually vegan too, though check the sauce if a place adds yoghurt or garlic cream. Everything on this list is marked (V).
Where can I get cheap falafel in Bur Dubai?
Persian Cafeteria is the one to know, at around AED 3.50 with its own chutney recipe. Aroos Damascus and Falafil Al Rabiah Al Khadra are the other two worth walking to.
