The best shawarmas in Dubai cost between AED 6 and AED 30, and the cheap ones win more often than not. These are the 20 I actually eat at, grouped by whether you want a cafeteria counter, a proper Lebanese room or something reinvented.
This is my living list of the best shawarmas in Dubai, updated as places change. Vegetarian options are marked (V) — there are fewer than you would hope, but they exist.
Cafeteria counters: the best shawarmas in Dubai for under AED 10
Where most of the best shawarmas in Dubai actually live. No seating worth mentioning, no ceremony, and the price is the point.
Al Mallah — Al Diyafah
One of the most affordable shawarma places in the city, and the price says nothing about the quality. The Dubai institution, going since 1979.
Al Ijaza Cafeteria — Jumeirah
Shawarma alongside a broader menu of genuinely affordable food. A late-night Jumeirah fixture.
Shawarma Station
Multiple branches across the city, and consistent at every one. The reliable default when you are not near anywhere better.
Metro Falcon Restaurant
Shawarma plus a beef stroganoff that has no business being as good as it is. Odd menu, good food.
Eat & Drink
Regular and spicy shawarma, both worth ordering. Unglamorous and consistently good.
Farouj Fawaz
Order the hummus shawarma. It is the reason to come and there is no substitute elsewhere on this list.
Lebanese restaurants
Where the shawarma is one line on a much bigger menu, and usually better for it.
Al Beiruti
An excellent Lebanese room with proper fries and manakeesh alongside the shawarma. (V options)
Al Falamanki
Beef-filled shawarma rolls, then stay for the rest of the menu. A room built for lingering. (V options)
Barbar
Simple, authentic Lebanese, and the chicken shawarma is the order. Unfussy in the best way.
Al Safadi
Multiple branches, so there is usually one near you. Consistent across all of them. (V options)
Al Mandaloun
Go for more than the shawarma — the wider Lebanese menu is the real draw here. (V options)
Beirut Bites
Regular shawarma plus tender beef slices done their own way. Worth the detour.
Shiraz Nights — Deira
Spicy chicken shawarma with a chilli-garlic sauce that does most of the work. The best spicy version on this list.
The premium end
More expensive, occasionally worth it, and useful when you need a room rather than a counter.
Al Nafoorah — Palm Jumeirah
Pricier than everywhere else here, and the setting explains most of that. The shawarma still holds up.
Bebabel — Fashion Avenue
Great shawarma and a Burj Khalifa view, which is a combination you pay for. (V options)
Al Ijaza and Operation Falafel — multiple branches
Operation Falafel does a solid shawarma alongside the rest of its Middle Eastern menu, with branches across the city. (V options)
Reinvented and vegetarian
Where someone has decided the classic needed changing. Sometimes they were right.
S’wich
Gourmet shawarma rather than traditional. The Smoky is the one to try if you are only having one.
Manthoushe
The vegan shawarma option, made with Lebanese bread and done properly rather than as a token gesture. (V)
Laffah Restaurant
My personal pick of the whole list. Also does a Laffah Fried Chicken that is the sleeper order.
IKEA — Jebel Ali
Yes, really. Arabic bread, and it costs almost nothing. Worth knowing about if you are already there.
Questions people ask
What are the best shawarmas in Dubai?
Laffah is my personal pick, Al Mallah is the institution and the cheapest of the classics, and Shiraz Nights in Deira does the best spicy version. For something different, S’wich does gourmet shawarma.
How much does a shawarma cost in Dubai?
Between roughly AED 6 and AED 30. Cafeteria counters sit at the bottom, Lebanese restaurants in the middle, and hotel or mall locations like Al Nafoorah and Bebabel at the top.
Is there vegetarian shawarma in Dubai?
Yes, though it is rarer than it should be. Manthoushe does a proper vegan version with Lebanese bread. Most Lebanese restaurants on this list will also do a falafel wrap if you ask.
What is the difference between shawarma and a shawarma roll?
The roll is wrapped tightly in thin Arabic bread and usually smaller and cheaper. A shawarma sandwich or plate gives you more meat, more salad and more sauce. Cafeteria counters do rolls, restaurants tend to do plates.
